Day 2 – Wernigerode and onward journey to Lübeck
After an extensive breakfast, you will explore the picturesque old town of Wernigerode in the morning on a guided city tour. Afterwards, enjoy a joint lunch before we continue our journey to Lübeck. Arriving at the ***Hotel Goos, you can check into your rooms and end the day with a cozy dinner.
Day 3 – Heligoland – Germany’s only North Sea high sea island
Our departure port is Büsum in Dithmarschen. From here, the crossing to Germany’s only high sea island is the shortest, taking about 2.5 hours. Arrival via Husum and Tönning through North Friesland, after about 1 hour we reach the Büsumer harbor. In the outer harbor, we board the spa ship and start the sea voyage to Heligoland. After about 1.5 hours, a strengthening lunch will be served. Once in Heligoland, we cross over with the traditional Börte boats. On the island you have about 4 hours to stay: possibility for island tour with the tour guide, for individual exploration or for relaxing in the fresh sea air. Heligoland is located 45 km from the mainland and impresses, among other things, with the “Lange Anna”, the striking rock in the southwest. Also worth seeing are the aquarium of the Institute for Marine Research, the bathing dune and the path between Ober- and Unterland (180 steps or island elevator). Heligoland is a customs exclusion zone and therefore also known for cheap shopping. Around 6 pm return to Büsum and bus ride to the hotel for a joint dinner.
Day 4 – In the footsteps of the Vikings – Haithabu, Schleswig & Schleifahrt Kappeln
Today we embark on a journey into the time of the Vikings. In the historical Haithabu, once one of the most important settlements in Northern Europe (9th-11th centuries), the Viking Museum impressively shows that the Norsemen were far more than just warriors: jewelry, clothing, tools, everyday objects and a reconstructed Viking ship bring the past to life. After the destruction of Haithabu, the city of Schleswig was built on the other side of the Schlei. During a tour we discover the charming cultural city with its most important sights. Afterwards there is time for a short stroll or a coffee break in the old town. In the afternoon we go to Kappeln, where we set off for a leisurely Schlei trip. From the water we enjoy the gentle landscape of the Schlei, small bays, thatched houses and the typical North German flair – a relaxed end to this historic day. Then return to the hotel.
Day 5 – Romantic tour to Denmark
This romantic trip takes us to our Scandinavian neighbor Denmark. The destination is the over 900 year old port city of Sønderborg on the Alsensund. Even the journey is an experience: We drive along the Flensburg inner and outer fjord, past the Ochseninseln and over Gråsten, the summer residence of the Danish Queen. A historical highlight are the Düppel hills (Dybbøl Banker). The original location with reconstructed battlefield and entrenchment model is a reminder of the German-Danish War of 1864. We continue over the high bridge of the Alsensund to Sønderborg. During a stroll through the city we discover the charming port city and enjoy typical Danish flair – including original Danish hotdogs. Afterwards we leave Alsen and drive on the “Fairy Tale Road” along the Flensburg Fjord towards Flensburg. In good weather there is the possibility of a short bathing stop at the Baltic Sea. Flensburg, Germany’s northernmost city and known as the “Rum City”, invites you to take a walk through the pedestrian zone. After eventful impressions we go back to the Hotel Goos, where a fine dinner awaits us.
