Advent in the Dirndl Valley – With the Himmelstreppe to Mariazell
Day 1 – Arrival & Advent Magic
Your journey begins in the Pinzgau and Pongau regions and takes you to the idyllic Dirndl Valley, where you will be warmly welcomed at the traditional Steinschalerhof in Rabenstein. To get in the mood for the day, enjoy a 3-course lunch at the hotel. Afterwards, you will receive a short, interesting introduction to the Mariazell Railway from the hotel staff – perfect for learning more about this special railway line.
You will continue by bus to Laubenbachmühle, where the modern and impressive operations depot is located. Here you will gain exciting insights into the technology and processes of the “Himmelstreppe” (Stairway to Heaven), probably Austria’s most charming regional train.
Afterwards, the highlight of the day begins: the ride with the Himmelstreppe from Laubenbachmühle to Mariazell. Through large panoramic windows, you can enjoy the winter landscape that gently lies beneath the enchanting valleys and hills.
Once in Mariazell, visit the atmospheric Advent market, which offers a very special experience with its fragrant delicacies, traditional craft stalls and the festive backdrop around the basilica.
In the evening, your bus will take you back to the hotel, where you can end the day in comfort. Overnight stay at the Steinschalerhof.
Day 2 – Dirndl & Departure
After a leisurely breakfast, a special program awaits you: an introductory lecture on the Dirndl, the characteristic fruit of the Dirndl Valley. You will learn interesting facts about cultivation, processing and tradition – and of course, Dirndl tastings are a must!
With a suitcase full of impressions, scents and Advent spirit, you will then begin the comfortable journey back to Pongau and Pinzgau.
