Alsace voyage of discovery
Day 1 – Arrival in Alsace
Impressive castles protrude between the hills, medieval wine villages show themselves in colorful garb
colorful half-timbered facades and windows decorated with geraniums in a lovely landscape of vineyards – that’s it
Alsace, in the immediate vicinity between the Vosges and the Rhine. After arriving in Mulhouse, we move into our rooms and enjoy the first evening eating together.
Day 2 – European city of Strasbourg and half-timbered town of Colmar
Today we take a city tour in the European city of Strasbourg to get to know the main sights. The Strasbourg Cathedral with its astronomical clock, the picturesque old town district of La Petite France, the modern European Quarter and the oldest of all town houses, the Maison Kammerzell, are particularly attractive. At lunchtime we stop at a regional restaurant in Strasbourg, where you will be served a typical Alsatian menu, including the famous choucroute. Then we continue to Colmar, a town that is known far beyond the borders of Alsace for the Isenheim Altarpiece by Matthias Grünewald. But during a city tour we get to know even more of the beautiful sides of Colmar. Today’s day ends with a joint dinner at the hotel.
Day 3 – Vosges Tour
Via Cernay we reach the Grand Ballon, the highest peak of the Vosges at 1423 m, and then follow the ridge road past Le Markstein and Le Hohneck. In the charming municipality of Le Valtin we will have a milker meal, the typical dish of the mountain farmers, at lunchtime in a cozy inn. Following the Route des Cretes, we reach the Col de lagorge, a 1159 m high mountain pass. There are numerous mountain lakes on both sides of the Vosges ridge, which add to the scenic appeal of the High Vosges. Finally, we stop at a cheese factory to follow the production process and taste it. Today we end the day together with dinner at the hotel.
Day 4 – Visit Hochkönigsburg
Today we start our day with a trip to the Upper Black Forest. The first stop is in Triberg, where you can admire the world’s largest cuckoo clock. The journey continues past the Titisee to Hinterzarten, the most beautiful place in Baden-Württemberg, through the well-known Höllental to Freiburg. Freiburg im Breisgau is located on the slopes of the Black Forest and in the Upper Rhine lowlands. The houses decorated with guild signs, the ancient streets and the “Bächle” give the town a unique character. The most famous attraction is the famous Münster. From the tower you have an incomparable view over the city.
Day 5 – Journey home
After a hearty breakfast we go to Schaffhausen and visit one of the largest and most water-rich waterfalls in Europe, the Rhine Falls. Then we start the journey home.
